The Rev. Richard C. Marsden is the Church of the Redeemer’s Associate Rector; he has been at Redeemer since 1996. Ordained as a priest in 1991, he served as Assistant Priest at Christ Episcopal Church in Bradenton prior to being called to Redeemer.
Father Marsden has a BA in History from Norwich University (1974) in Northfield, Vermont; Master in Religious Education from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (1989) in South Hamilton, Massachusetts; and Master of Divinity at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (1990) in Ambridge, Pennsylvania.
As a commissioned officer with the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army (1974-1982), he served his country as a helicopter pilot, flight section leader and staff officer (both in the US and in Germany).
Father Marsden oversees many aspects of pastoral and parish life – including overseeing several ministries including Stages of Life, Christian Education, Family & Marriage Enrichment, Grief & Bereavement, and Shepherds’ Watch. Additionally, Father Marsden is a board member of the Charis Counseling Center in Sarasota.
Residing in Bradenton, Florida with his wife, Gail, a preschool teacher, he enjoys the outdoors, shooting, reading, history, collecting Civil War era photographic images and cases, and refurbishing antique trunks. He is a history buff and an avid Civil War Re-enactor.
