Holy Week and Easter at Church of the Redeemer: Maundy Thursday through Easter Day
Redeemer on Easter Day, 2012
The Church of the Redeemer invites the community to celebrate Holy Week and Easter, the focal point and heart of the Christian Faith, with the parish. The Paschal Triduum — the Great Three Days — begins on Maundy Thursday, March 28. Masses this day commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus; the institution of the Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The 7:30 evening mass is a choral service including the washing of feet, procession to the Altar of Repose and stripping of the altars.
On Good Friday, March 29, the Stations of the Cross will be walked down Main Street beginning at 7:30 a.m., on the sidewalk in front of the Hollywood 20 movie theater, and ending at Redeemer at approximately 8:30 a.m. The Mass of the Pre-Sanctified will be offered at 10 a.m., and the three-hour liturgy, which begins at noon, will commemorate the time Jesus hung on the cross, and will include the singing of the Passion according to John, Solemn Collects, Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion from the Reserved Sacrament.
The celebration of the Resurrection begins Saturday, March 30, with the Great Vigil of Easter beginning at 8 p.m., and continuing through 10:30 p.m.
Easter Day (March 31) masses will be celebrated at 7, 9 and 11 a.m. Children of the Kindergarten class will receive their First Communion during the 9 a.m. mass. At 1 p.m., Redeemer will offer a Spanish Mass.
The community is warmly invited to celebrate Holy Week and Easter with the Church of the Redeemer. Complimentary parking is available in the BMO Harris Bank Parking Garage on McAnsh Square on Maundy Thursday, March 28, 6:30-10 p.m.; on Easter Eve, March 30, 6:45 p.m.-midnight; and on Easter Sunday, March 31, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
