The Clergy and I have good news: (The Rev.) Michael Durning, the most recent Canon to the Ordinary of our diocese, has agreed to join our adjunct staff of so-called retired priests (I say “so-called,” because they seem pretty active to me!). In a place with so many activities and masses, it truly takes a village, and Fr. Michael will be a great asset as we build God’s village of grace, mercy and love. I want to thank especially Fr. Chris for facilitating this and doing the heavy lifting to make it happen, and I have expressed my thanks already to Bp. Dabney for giving it the “green light.” I also want to express my renewed thanks for all the clergy-in-residence. What a gift we have with so many faithful priests serving in retirement!

Fr. Michael will start in August. You will see him for daily masses here and there, and you’ll see him, hopefully, teach here and there, as he feels led. He also plans to assist on some Sundays so that no single retired priest is expected every Sunday at the 9 and 11 masses.

Yours,

Fr. Charleston
